Born and raised in Reno, Nevada, Melissa has always loved to connect with people through experiences.
Melissa graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a B.A. in journalism (emphasis in strategic communications and news) and a minor in psychology. When she first entered college, she started as a pre-law major with the hopes of becoming a prosecutor. She decided to add journalism as a second major and instantly fell in love with the field, leaving her pre-law goals behind. She received two amazing internship opportunities in 2016 – a PR internship with Ashley Brune and a blogging internship with Leanna Carson.
After college, she became a Digital & Social Media Coordinator at THE ROW – one of the leading resort-casinos in the Reno-Tahoe area, getting to work with one of her past internship mentors. After her time at THE ROW, she joined The Great Reno Balloon Race as their event coordinator with also working with STEP2 as their Marketing Associate.
While working her full-time jobs, Melissa was given different opportunities to do contract work. These experiences helped her connect with various professionals in the community while also learning the importance of balancing her workload. With the support of her mentors, she decided to start MelJane Media.
Melissa volunteers her time as Vice President of Marketing for Nevada Young Alumni; Vice President of Student Relations for PRSSA Sierra Nevada; and Secretary for Northern Nevada Alumnae Panhellenic. She is also involved on a volunteer basis with Reno-Tahoe American Marketing Association.
In her free time, Melissa loves to attend concerts & festivals, find new events to attend, hang out with her pups and make TikToks!
